When used as a booster stage in a vacuum system, the roots blower can achieve suction pressure of up to 10^-3 mbar and deliver volume flow rates of up to 97,000 m³/h without lubricants. As a result, this type of vacuum pump really boosts the pressure range of downstream vacuum pumps, such as liquid ring vacuum pumps or screw vacuum pumps. Depending on the operating point, the comparatively low pressure difference in the fine and rough vacuum range requires a multi-stage design. To achieve the desired operating point safely and reliably, multi-stage vacuum systems consist of several vacuum pumps connected in series.
