Functioning flawlessly in landfill leachate for 25 years

Körting’s superior-quality, reliable wastewater aeration systems in a landfill leachate treatment plant

Still going strong 25 years later – Körting wastewater aeration systems

In 2022, a customer from the south west of Germany requested a replacement for a Körting wastewater aeration and mixing system. When we spoke to the customer, it turned out that their ejectors had been in operation since 1998, in other words, for almost 25 years. They had been functioning reliably under difficult wastewater conditions and were still doing so. The customer needed a replacement for operational safety and a regular shutdown for an overhaul had already been announced. At the same time, this was an opportunity to switch to Körting’s state-of-the-art wastewater aeration systems. As the plant operator (Gesellschaft im Ostalbkreis für Abfallbewirtschaftung mbh [GOA]) was already impressed by the way the Körting ejectors functioned and their performance, durability, quality, and reliability, contacting Körting Hannover GmbH again was an obvious move.

The new system improves the carbon footprint

On the advice of the project engineers, a quote was submitted for the state-of-the-art, high-density polypropylene (HD-PP) Körting ejectors instead of the previous ones made of PVC because of the better carbon footprint. In contrast to PVC, HD-PP emits no harmful substances because it’s made solely of hydrogen and carbon. As Körting wastewater aeration systems are always customised products, it was no problem to make the ejectors the same size as the old ones. There was no need for any complex alterations to the existing pipe system into the tank.

The new ejectors are custom made, rendering expensive conversions unnecessary

Three 12-path-ejectors for full mixing and comprehensive aeration of the three nitrification tanks were supplied. The ejectors not only ensure fine-bubble aeration with optimum oxygen utilisation, but also full suspension of the biomass required to decompose the pollution load. As a result, deposits on the bottom of the tank are prevented.

Over the past 30 years, Körting Hannover GmbH has fitted around 2,000 sewage treatment plants with this tried-and-tested, energy-saving ejector technology. Many plant operators with heavily contaminated or difficult to degrade wastewater rely on the robust, ejectors made in Germany, which are custom manufactured in the production facilities in Hanover that exists for more than 150 years.
